Positive signs for travel industry as salaries rise again

After last month’s slight fall, travel job salaries rebounded strongly in April to rise by 1.44 per cent in the month, according to the latest Travel Salary Index from C&M Recruitment Consultancy (http://www.candm.co.uk/) and Chisholm & Moore Executive Recruitment (http://www.chisholmandmoore.co.uk/).

The figures, which were drawn from all new vacancies registered at the companies in the month, marked a recovery after the 1.93 per cent fall seen in March. The rise means that April’s figure of £27,172 is just £140 short of the £27,312 total seen in February 2013, which marked the index’s highest average since its records began in 2010.

The annual change in travel job salaries was even more pronounced with a 14.97 per cent rise, although the three-month average figures (which commonly produce a more reliable indicator of recent trends) showed gentler rises of 0.34 per cent in the month and 8.06 per cent in the year.

Commenting on the figures, Barbara Kolosinska, sales director at C&M Recruitment Consultancy, said: “This can only be seen as great news for travel employees. While there may not be as many jobs available now as before the recession, the positions that are vacant are offering a far improved salary. Anyone who manages to secure a new travel job in the near future should reap the benefits of the more generous salaries currently being provided by travel companies.”

More candidates, more jobs

In further positive news for the travel industry, the number of new vacancies increased in April by a huge 19.4 per cent, although this was still down annually, while the number of new candidates registering their interest in travel jobs rose by 3.35 per cent to reach its highest level in over a year.

“April’s rise in both new vacancies and new candidates can only be seen as a positive indicator for the travel industry. It still remains too early to state that the sector has recovered from the economic problems of recent years, but all signs point to the industry being on the right track,” said Ms Kolosinska.

Travel recruitment market hits more positive level in years

After a period of care and labour market slack, travel has rebounded to reach the most positive level this decade, according to the hiring of consultants & M C (http://www.candm.co.uk/).

The claim follows the release of new data showing that the number of new jobs attributed to the company during the first six months of the year rose by 3.01 percent, compared with 2012 and by a huge 12.76 percent compared with the same period of 2010.

The annual increase is even more impressive considering the falling 0.83 percent of new jobs in the first half of 2012, compared to the first half of 2011, and is a clear indication that companies hiring intentions improved.

In addition, recent research from the recruitment and employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG found that permanent job placements grew at their fastest rate since April of 2011, while data from the BDO claimed that British companies intentions to create more jobs rose to their highest level in nearly two years.

Commenting on the figures, Barbara Kolosinska, sales manager at C M recruitment consultants & said: "the number of new jobs we have had in recent months has risen sharply compared with last year, and this is extremely encouraging for the labour market and the economy as a whole.

"While it is still too early to say for sure, definitely seems that companies are becoming more optimistic about the short-term Outlook and is increasingly confident about the creation of new jobs."

MS Kolosinska added: "it's also great to see that other surveys indicate a similarly positive Outlook, which is a fantastic indicator that this upturn of recruitment is widespread.

"Of course, things can change quickly in the labour market, but we are optimistic (and very optimistic and I think) that the rest of the year, will be so positive, as have the first six months."
